|“ I didn't see Morrison and don't know if he had a treasure trail and was asked to shave or wax at the time by the director; he had left by the time I saw the "South Pacific", and the guy who replaced him gave a rather bizarre performance, one so distracting that I don't recall if his treasure trail was there or not.”
You are referring to Andrew Samonsky, who was with the production when it was filmed for PBS. Cut him some slack. Sher’s one off-note with this production was his depiction of Lt. Cable. The book supports a Cable too naive and sheltered to consider the consequences of his own actions until it’s too late, not a PC depiction of the arrogant white male/ugly American. Morrison didn’t make it work either.
