On the first, I'd say I was listing rather than categorizing :-) I also don't think they are necessarily mutually included or excluded. I do think that there is a subset of folks at least for whom the objection to revision is related to "tradition." But I am not arguing with that you say in general.
On the second, I was exaggerating some, though it is of course true that subjectivity figures in every award (unless it is based on a mechanical system like a horse race). But I agree that the judges are hopefully voting within the context of the stated terms of the award. And to underscore the point, when I said that Rent was "important," that too is subjective. Some of our compadres here have, over the years, made it quite clear that they don't consider Rent important at all. etc etc
I guess we can conclude that no award is conclusive proof of anything.
