I’m open to alternate points of view, but this is basically a cherry picking of a few cases mixed with some whataboutism about actors from minority groups playing characters that historically or traditionally weren’t aligned with that identity, with the original B essay featuring mistaken information about two of those actors, mostly saying things that have been said in this same way for a number of years.

I think most of the Times opinion articles are clickbait, from both left and right wing authors; we certainly know that Opinion is one of the most profitable sections of the paper (so much that they tried to spin it off behind a separate paywall), and is known to be the least rigorously vetted for content.
