Why not a white "Raisin in the Sun"?

The original case for ethnic and sexual minorities in roles that reflect them was because these groups don't get many acting opportunities on stage or movies.

But then, it morphed into, no one else should be able to portray roles that don't reflect who they are in real life.

And that's when it got ridiculous.

Yes, give minorities more opportunities. If it means a multi-cultural Gypsy, I'm all for it. I'm also on board with a multi-cultural Raisin or The Wiz, if need be. (This generation may find those silly, but in 20 years, no one would even notice.) We're a multi-cultural society and theatre should reflect that at every turn.

Demanding that only gays play gays and Jews play Jews, not only robs the audience of the best actor for a role (Beanie is a perfect example), but it also means gays shouldn't play straight or Jews should not play non-Jews--limiting their prospects even more.
