What parts do you find ugly? Besides group numbers like "When the Flood Comes", I think the score is ravishing even the parts expressing or reacting to ugly things. "That's What He Said" gets to a sort of ugly place aurally but not really, mostly just intense and rousing. But the rest of it is not anything I'd call remotely ugly, in a dramatically appropriate way or not.
