The line from "Much More" about "keeping house" could easily be altered to "I want much more than staying home," without altering the meter or the meaning, while still making it less decidedly "feminine." (And, as it happens, that line doesn't have to rhyme with anything.)

Not that I think a gay Fantasticks is an awfully good idea. It might be made to work, just maybe, with a craftsperson of genius rewriting the lyrics, one who also possesses profound insight into the human heart and who understands the difference between man-with-woman and man-with-man. It will be trickier, I think, to come up with equivalents for "to wear my hair unfastened 'til it billows to the floor" (when did men ever do that?) and "to be the kind of girl designed to be kissed upon the eyes."

I would, as always, prefer it if, instead of rewriting an old musical about a man and a woman the said craftsperson of genius would write a new timeless and heartfelt musical romance about a man and a man.
