I saw the second performance of that when it was still on Fifth Avenue. I saw an ad in the Voice and made reservations right away, based on having seen the movie a bunch of times. So I didn't even have the benefit of any word of mouth let alone reviews. I had seen Ellen Greene in Next Stop, Greenwich Village and the cast album for Threepenny Opera, and Michael Vale from the Breakstone commercials but other than that it was all new to me.
Honestly, I was expecting something truly awful, but funny. About three songs into it, though I looked at my friend, and said, "Wow, this is really good."
What a pleasure. |
