The reaction to his Broadway production of The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public seemed to put his career on a downward trend that he's never recovered from. Many of the things he has done after that in order to keep working were not very worthy of his talent. IMO it's a very sad situation. Just my opinion, of course.
