Saw this on TV and didn't think Foster was as good as Lupone was in the role, whom I saw at Lincoln Center. (That recording remains my very favorite of the score, although I do love the off-Broadway one as well.) I will say I was never a huge Sutton Foster fan (after I saw Millie, I agreed with the New Yorker's assessment of her as thoroughly modern, shrilly) but I will say that when I saw her in concert, I completely revised my opinion. She was very charming, personable and very funny. I was surprised by that and I really enjoyed her choice of material as well as her presentation. She wouldn't be my first choice for Marian, but I hear she is great and I'm sorry I probably won't get to see her do it.
