I left the theater feeling disappointed in this latest Broadway production of Macbeth.

I enjoyed some of the performances quite a bit. Daniel Craig was very good and Ruth Negga was EXCELLENT. She’s a very charismatic stage actress. Amber Gray and Maria Dizzia were solid, as always.

Many of the directorial choices, though, really let this production down. It felt very uneven, as did Gold’s staging of King Lear a few years ago. I was really looking forward to a solid production of Macbeth. And I’m not necessarily looking for a museum piece. I loved the one man production performed by Alan Cumming a number of years ago.

The art work for this production, sadly, was more interesting than the production itself.
