I'm not sure why people turned against Michelle, but I know that I fell prey to that popular sentiment; I think the documentary is potentially a great piece of reputation repair for her. She comes across as smart, warm, humble, and unguarded - the secret she shared about Groff seeing her vagina was pretty incredible, as well as her joking about Groff getting a Tony nom because he left a bigger tip at the church - and I was left with a much better impression of her. I also thought it was interesting to learn about Groff's journey from being closeted to being out, and the ways that Lea was a part of that.

I think it's a pretty good film overall, and one that left me wishing they had recorded the original production properly. I just think they tidied up the history of the making of the show to exclude Bill T. Jones from his pivotal role in shaping what that production was, which on a number of levels is really unfortunate... all the more so because they lean so heavily into Lili Cooper as a mark of "diversity".
