I definitely preferred her NY Phil version of the song and I greatly preferred that entire enterprise over Marianne Elliott's version, which I saw late in previews in London. I went in having heard nothing and was very optimistic but I found the central premise of gender switching changed the story of the play into something else entirely that did not grab me emotionally (especially compared to the last London production at the Donmar with Adrian Lester, which left me shattered). I am guessing Patti hadn't yet slipped into the mannerisms that tend to put me off because she was still finding her feet in the role and I sort of liked her. (Johnny Bailey was by far the production stand-out.)
If you go I hope you like her :). I may not agree with them, but I know there are a lot of people for whom she can do no wrong :).
