| www.DramaDeskAwards.com Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton; The Color Purple; Girl5eva) will host the 66th Annual Drama Desk Awards, it was announced today. This year’s Drama Desk Awards will take place at Sardi’s (234 W 44th Street) on June 14th from 3:00 – 6:00pm. The full list of winners is available at the website www.DramaDeskAwards.com. Presenters for the Awards have also been announced. They include: Charles Busch, Kerry Butler, Liz Callaway, Lileana Blain-Cruz, Santino Fontana, Jessica Hecht, Brittany Johnson, Leslie Kritzer, Derek McLane, Heidi Schreck, Talia Suskauer, and Sanaz Toossi. There will also be performances by the 2020 Drama Desk Award winner for Best Musical Revival - Little Shop of Horrors, The cast of Harmony, and The Broadway Boys. In keeping with the Drama Desk's mission, the nominators considered shows that opened on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway between July 2, 2021 and May 1, 2022 for this year’s Awards. Only live performances were eligible – if performances were also available for streaming, 21 or more unique live performances were required. The Drama Desk Awards are produced by Tony Award winner Scott Mauro/Scott Mauro Entertainment and the show is being written by six-time Emmy Award winner Bruce Vilanch. She is perhaps best known for her role as Angelica Schuyler in the musical phenomenon Hamilton, which has become a cultural touchstone for the ages. Renée’s performance earned her a Tony Award, Grammy Award, Drama Desk Award, and a Lucille Lortel Award. In July 2021, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for the Disney+ film adaptation. Renee currently stars in Tina Fey’s new Emmy nominated series for Peacock, Girls5eva. Up next, she will be seen in Billy Porter’s film directorial debut “What If” and Marvel’s newest series She-Hulk for Disney+. Renée's appearances on stage include her Outer Critics Circle Award nominated performance opposite Frances McDormand in the play Good People and the original Broadway version of The Color Purple. She made her Broadway debut as Nala in The Lion King, and her performance as Mimi in Broadway's closing cast of Rent was immortalized on film. As a solo artist, Renee garners rave reviews performing to packed crowds in concert halls and symphony spaces all over the country. Her debut album will be released this year.
