Long ago and far away I was involved in a production of a melodrama. During a scene where the archetypal villain is alone on stage outlining his dastardly plans in monologue, a bat ominously entered and circled high over his head. As I recall, the actor was unaware at the time. The bat circled a few times, then exited stage right and out the building. If an audience member wasn'r famliar with the mountainous area, where there were a LOT of bats, they might have though it was part of the show.
