There IS no context to this production of The Music Man. They altered the text, cut a song (from The Music Man!), added a tap number (?!?!), dressed everyone drably, and staged parts so oddly (Iowa Stubborn) and kicked it all behind an oppressive red door.
It’s as if the creatives didn’t trust the piece. A wild misfire in what absolutely should have been a sure thing.
