There were 5 plays that won Tonys. Three were from the fall/winter (Dana H, Lehman Trilogy, Skeleton Crew) and only 2 were from the spring (Take Me Out and Skin of Our Teeth). It looks like voters were only voting for categories where they saw all the nominees.
A theatergoer can not see a Tony-winning play this week. Although there are 5 plays running, none of them won.
Only 16,000 people saw Dana H during its entire run. (13,500 people saw Wicked just last week.)
With A Strange Loop's win for Best Musical, I can't help but think Jaquel Spivey would have won if he hadn't missed so many performances recently. I believe A Strange Loop only won 2 Tonys: Best Musical and Best Book. Has any other show won Best Musical with such a small haul? |
