| ''A Strange Loop'' went into the evening as the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical with a leading 11 Tony nominations. GoldDerby.com's odds predicted it would win 5 Tonys: Best Musical, Actor, Score, Book and Orchestrations. But it wasn't a good omen when it lost the first Tony of the night, Best Score, to ''Six.'' Two-and-a-half-hours would pass before ''Strange Loop'' snagged its first Tony: Michael R. Jackson for Best Book. Judging by the audience's rapturous reaction to that win at Radio City, you'd think ''Strange Loop'' would've won a lot more. Still, it wrapped up the 4-hour Tonys by winning Best Musical. (But who would've guessed ''MJ'' would win twice as many as ''Loop''?) The Times reported that the Best Actor race was tight. Maybe Myles Frost edged out Jaquel Spivey, due to Spivey's absences. Who knows? |
