I didn't have any sound or tech issues, although I feared I would, streaming the whole show.
Agreed on Porter.
Foster didn't sing only because the producers of TMM put all their eggs in a 76 Trombones basket. They could have done a mini-medley with a little bit of everything, but I think they did better by doing a big number. Same strategy as Company, and I think both came off pretty well. The whole point is to be a commercial for your show, and TMM succeeded with it, in my opinion. Extra important because Hugh and Sutton and the show were unlikely to win their awards, which they didn't.
I would be surprised if ASL does a conventional tour of any kind. I doubt it would be a big seller, except in a few bigger citires with a larger audience for edgier material. Paradise Square I could see being popular on the road and or with larger regional theatres. But it reportedly is expensive as is, so it would probably need to slim down to work financially. Also, had you bet me $1000 a few years ago that Garth Drabinsky would ever get mentioned at the Tony Awards again- let alone favorably- I would have taken that bet in a heartbeat. |
