| I think Paradise Alley was a surprise winner in the "What sold the show" stakes since "Burn" knocked it out of the park and then it had a win for Best Actress and a great speech. I know from reading this board how it has been running on fumes, limping along till Tony time. That number, Six, and MJ were the ones that landed with the people watching on my Facebook thread--the ones that had people saying they would get tickets. And, actually, Billy Crystal--that divided my friends 50/50 over whether it made them want to go to the show. I think the Company producers made a poor choice doing the opening number and I'm curious what others here think. I think they should have done Getting Married Today, but even a curtailed Another Hundred People maybe or Ladies Who Lunch would have been better. That opening number doesn't work at all on camera. I liked the Strange Loop number but found the Camera work confusing and what do you think of Elisabeth Vincentelli's opinion that they should have done a more intimate number? I wish Michael R. Jackson's speech when the show won best musical hadn't been cut off. I really wanted that show to get a lot of Tony ticket push since I love it so. Interested in everyone's thoughts. (Also, I thought Hugh Jackman was singing off key, right?) | |
