Have you actually seen the stage production? They don't play their characters at all in the show -- they're just Hugh and Sutton. The show is entertaining on a certain level because they're both charismatic, and they have good chemistry. However, they really butcher Willson's score and libretto. I'm surprised that the Willson estate is allowing them to make a cast recording.
Nevertheless, the paying audience seems to love what they're doing so who am I to criticize. If I decide to make a November trip, I may do the rush line, buy a cheap ticket, and take a second look. I actually enjoy engaging with my fellow peasants in the wee hours of the morning. The time usually just flies by. It's almost as much fun as seeing the show. |
