It was unconventional but I thought it was a beautiful selection, throwing lyrics that you thought you understood into a new context. And the idea that Broadway is just a street a few blocks long and that the people who had died were just some friends from the neighbourhood felt very right.
Now, Billy Porter wouldn't have been my first choice to sing it but by his questionable standards, it wasn't ruined.
