On the Street Where You Live is one of the greatest melodies ever written for a musical. To obscure that melody with a ton of melisma for me ruins it. It wouldn't really qualify as shtick, unless it's the kind of thing this singer does repeatedly, which I don't know since I'm not really familiar with his style.
