I didn’t watch it in real time and the boards (this and the other one) had me worried. But I’ve enjoyed the replays I’ve seen so far:
- the opening number had some great callbacks like Wilkommen and an inspired too-short use of “A Lot of Livin To Do” with “Buenos Aires” (two personal faves)
- the Spring Awakening reunion gave me a full number which seemed to be missing from HBO
- watching seasoned Broadway vets unable to resist Jerry Herman’s Mame was pretty fascinating
- Music Man tap tap tapping (with COVID?!)
For me, few things can top Chicago performance/win in 1997 or Bernadette’s meta mega “Rose’s Turn” so it may not be one for the ages but I liked what I’ve seen so far. |
