David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger, who penned ''Cry-Baby,'' won an Emmy for writing ''It's Not Just for Gays Anymore'' for the 2011 Tonys.
As remarkable as that was, my favorite all-time Tony opening came a couple years later, with Harris hosting again, this time with ''Bigger.''
It was a 8-minute tour de force in which he literally jumped through hoops and worked his magic, while tossing off a ton of tongue-twisting lyrics.
Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tom Kitt won an Emmy for writing ''Bigger.'' Harris won an Emmy, too, and its video has racked up 4.5 million views.
Harris says they got to rehearse it in full, only once or twice. The only time it went off without a hitch was during the live TV show. Amazing! |
