It's pretty traditional for musicals to begin Act II with a song or sequence that doesn't really tell any story or have much bearing on the plot. This is to accomodate theatregoers who are late coming back from the restroom or, in the golden age of Broadway, the bar across the street.
They may miss a fun number, but they won't be lost during Act II, having missed something vitally important to the plot. |
