Given that the production is likely going to lose money every performance, every week that Jackman doesn't appear (does anyone really want to see this without him?), if he's faking a Covid infection, he's probably putting himself at risk of a lawsuit from the producers.
I know he's got a reputation as a nice guy, but the only way he'd be doing this as a favor to Clayton would be if he was also offering to cover the production's losses during the time that Clayton is playing Harold Hill and that's probably a bridge too far (although, to be fair, if anyone could afford to do this and might actually make the offer, it's Jackman).
A more likely scenario to give Clayton the chance to go on, would be Jackman and the producers agreeing together to do this, probably for a single performance on a Tuesday night or a Wednesday matinee, and then, perhaps, it's more likely that the producers would be willing to take the loss for one performance or even that Jackman might buy a bunch of tickets for family and friends of the company to attend and cheer him on. |
