| The original issue with the Mackintosh production transferring to Broadway was all the kids that are required. Broadway contracts required that those kids be paid a full salary, despite most of them only appearing in a couple of scenes. Apparently, the rules are different in the UK. This made the production cost-prohibitive. And, unless Mackintosh was willing to compromise on that, which he wasn't before, it's never going to play Broadway. |
