Encores! had been doing more recent shows before Lear took over, whether in terms of distance from the original production (Grand Hotel, Big River…hell, even Chicago was only 20 years old when Encores! did it) or recent revivals (Follies, Merrily We Roll Along). It’s been a common complaint here for years from people with rather unrealistic expectations of what Encores! should produce.
I’m also excited to see Piazza, especially with Ruthie Ann Miles in the lead. It’s probably too much to hope that Victoria Clark might guest star as Signora Naccarelli, but a he/they can dream. |
