| They not only replaced a perfect rhyme with a non-rhyme — I suppose some might consider the result to have been a near-rhyme or slant rhyme or whatever term someone might wish to use — what did anyone consider objectionable about the Ritz line? Was it felt to be classist? And how could the content of the line moved to replace it be considered less objectionable given that mint juleps evokes slaves in the Old South serving drinks to their owners (and was famously used as a satirical cliché of this in Finian's Rainbow)? And this association seems to me surely to have been the intent. |
