| Max received a very enthusiastic and sustained welcome when he first revealed his face on stage. His performance didn’t disappoint. Once he began, I doubt anyone really missed Hugh Jackman. The audience went wild at the curtain call. Sutton Foster told us that after being with the show for three years, this was Max’s first time appearing as Harold Hill. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house, on or off stage, when the audience and cast responded with another ovation. The only problem was, how do you give someone a standing ovation when you’re already standing? Sutton then brought the other understudies and swings to the front of the stage to thank them, too. A very special night in the theater. |
