A beutiful speech honoring understudies and standbys and appreciates them. Sutton was an understudy for Erin Dilly in THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE when it was in it development in LaJolla California. She covered the role one day when Erin was out and the creative took notice and she wound up taking over the role and coming with it to Broadway. She wound up winning a Tony Award for the role.

Judy Kaye was lucky being understudy for Madeline Kahn in ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY and wound up taking over the role early in its run. Larry Kert was standby in COMPANY and took over the role from Dean Jones. He won a Tony for this, a one time precedent. He took the role with the original cast when it went to London.

I won the lottery for FUNNY GIRL for the Saturday matinee. Julie Benko was amazing, a star to be. The audience did not applaud at her entrance but after she sang "I'm the Greatest Star" not too long after the applause went on forever with cheering and won the audience over.
