| Encores! yesterday announced its new season, but recently Kate of TheatreIsLife offered her wish list of 10 ''Forgotten Musicals'' for Encores! They're far too obscure for Encores!, but it was fascinating to see her choices, some of which I know only as footnotes in Tony history: * ''Carnival in Flanders'' (1953): Ran for only 6 performances, but its star, Dolores Gray, won the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical. * ''The Lieutenant'' (1975): Ran for only 9 performances, but got 4 Tony nominations: Best Musical, Book, Score and Actor (Eddie Mekka). * ''The Moony Shapiro Songbook'' (1981): Closed on its opening night, but still got a Tony nomination for Best Book. Featured Jeff Goldblum. Could anyone here have seen these? Also on Kate's list: ''Flahooley,'' ''Simply Heavenly,'' ''Rachael Lily Rosenbloom'' (closed before opening) ... |
