Not really, William F. Buckley was the father of a conservatism that has been destroyed and nearly erased by Trumpism. And one that by 1965 when the debate occurred was largely attempting to accommodate itself to the black civil rights movement, perhaps not in full good faith but I think partially.
You would not know this from the debate, in which Buckley doesn't conceal his contempt for Baldwin. |
