| Like Julie in Funny Girl - perfectly good understudy/standby/swing, etc. No star power, but then, he’s not a star. Fine dancer, tho. He’s not much of a challenge to Sutton, who is fab as usual. Great understudy on for Tommy Djilas - Nick Alvino - bravo! This production is still so clinical and lacking in charm. Too bad. |

| I love miserable posts like this that say absolutely nothing other than to be critical. Thanks for your empty opinion. If you're gonna report on a performance then actually report. | |

| Genealley didn't like the "Music Man" that much with Jackman. I'm surprised he went back for Max Clayton - if he did really go back... Plug Genealley's name into the User Name search function in "All That Chat" he chimes in with anti-Benko posts repeatedly: "Benko was Bueno pero no Estrella Posted by: Genealley 12:47 am EDT 05/02/22 In reply to: Having seen both Feldstein and Benko, I agree and disagree. - DanielVincent 09:57 pm EDT 05/01/22 She was efficient and could sing, but I really got no Star In The Making vibe. She was rushing her lines (probably from nerves) and her interpretations of the songs were very basic. Just a good stand-by who did her job and will go back to being a good stand-by. But I was impressed by how long she could hold a note." "Trust me...she's nowhere near Streisand's performance" Posted by: Genealley 05:17 pm EDT 05/02/22 In reply to: re: Having seen both Feldstein and Benko, I agree and disagree. - KingSpeed 03:19 pm EDT 05/02/22 She's not quirky, not interpretative in singing, rushes a lot of lines, misses jokes, disappears in Rat-A-Tat-Tat. No comparison." On the MJ understudy: "Wow. Get a life? Posted by: Genealley 05:31 pm EDT 05/13/22 In reply to: re: Saw MJ tonight - writerkev 04:58 pm EDT 05/13/22 These post-ers are officially out of control. I did not intentionally try to stir the pot by posting a provocative statement. I was merely stating that the originator HAS to be better than this standby. Otherwise he couldn't be so praised and awarded. And it's hysterical that these people assume that I am a deliberate contrarian to create dialogue. Just so happens that I don't find a lot of shows very good or lacking in good elements. So I point them out. And this site is just the place to do that. Believe me, when I come across something I like, you'll be the first to know it. (Strange Loop, Moulin Rouge, Beetlejuice, Six, Come From Away, Chicago, Oratorio, anyone?)" It's a thing with him. He is pretty much alone in being lukewarm or negative on Benko. Everyone else has raved - unless I missed something/someone. I can't say anything about how Max Clayton was since I haven't seen him or Jackman in "Music Man" because I haven't seen this revival. Marlo Manners (Lady Barrington) |

| “ just WHAT is a "thing" with me? That I dislike some things and like other things? Hysterical!!!” Hysterical is right. (And for what it’s worth, I agree with Ms Manners: I don’t believe either that anyone goes back to see the understudies in all these shows they pretty much hated the first time.) |

| I LOVE going back to shows I don't like to see the understudies. Sometimes it makes all the difference. And sometimes it at least elevates the show to a different, better level. Not understudies, but the replacement cast of SOMETHING ROTTEN (which I didn't much care for the first time) was excellent and changed my opinion of the show. Oh yeah....then there was that time that a certain Miss Minnelli stood in for Gwen Verdon and totally changed my mind about the show. I'd even go back again to see ANOTHER understudy in FUNNY GIRL. It's a classic show and it's fun to see how another take on the lead would affect the overall production. I mean SOMEBODY's gotta be able to save this gobbler!! |

| I was curious to see his performance as he IS covering such an iconic role. But, even though he is good looking and sings well, he was missing that certain sparkle and flair. Fine dancing, tho. Is that enough details for ya? Or do you really want more? |

| I felt the same way, I think borneback is just not being nice. I thought you gave an honest opinion and it was very clear what you said. Max was an amazing standby. I saw his first night on as well. He hit all the points. Didn't flub any lines. Dancing was amazing. Yet, he doesn't exude the x factor and charm that the likes of Hugh Jackman could project. Great job Max. I've seen Hugh 4 times in this role, and though not perfect. You can't take your eyes off him and he has that effortless charm and star power that makes the show very exciting. And yes, This Music Man does not soar like the last revival did in the Susan Stroman production. As for Julie Benko, I saw her last night. She was a star. Not in the X factor celebrity sense, but she was superb in every way. Her lines were funny, her double takes, you cared about her journey as Fanny and her voice. It soars to the rafters. The audience was with her all the way. I saw a totally different show. Bravo Julie. Her chemistry with Ramin was also evident. People were cheering them on with every look, every kiss, etc. I saw Beanie two weeks ago, my friend kept squeezing me everytime Beanie sang. I couldn't wait to get out of the theater and never come back. She had no pizzaz, no spark. I don't even find her funny. I am sad that the producers miscast her. It's not her fault, but she really can't carry that show. Just my thoughts. |

| I find hugh Jackman to be charmless and his voice grates on me. I jumped when I heard Max would be on as I don't want to see it with Hugh. Max was sensational, dynamic, his dancing effortless, and exuding charm. And oh, that smile! To each their own. I thought he elevated a mostly lousy production (all look, no heart) besides its stellar choreography. Much as I think Sutton is miscast, I enjoyed her Marian. Seconding Nick Alvino - he was terrific as Tommy. Had no idea he was an u/s. His dancing is FABULOUS! | |

| I have a similar but different take on Feldstein and the x factor. I saw her two weeks ago, and felt the need to root for her. The way you do watching a stock production wherein a TV personality takes on a stage role with forethought, skill, and above all else, good intentions. I wasn't troubled by her singing per se, which has nice notes ("Who Are You Now?"), some power aided by the soundboard. I felt I was being asked to buy into the fact of her casting, the concept of her performance in this venue, Broadway. So I kept leaning forward with that "is this the moment when she seals the deal?" expectation. In other words, I didn't sit in the dark house, hands across my chest, waiting for failure. I waited to be surprised. Sincerely. When the performance's workmanlike okay-ness coasted on -- marred by Mayer encouraging some unappealing clowning (that roll downstage in an ill-chosen costume) -- the show's seams showed, the second act's structural monotony and reliance on snippets of reprises to cue emotions sinking it. Feldstein's problem is that she can't deliver this vehicle as a vehicle. And once that becomes clear, the whole endeavor charging premium prices begins to implode. This star is never "bad" or embarrassing, moments of clowning excesses aside. But she can't make a case for Funny Girl to be happening. That, to me, is the fundamental problem baked into the DNA of this revival. |

| Same same same on Julie. After Greatest Star, everyone was WITH HER. I had an amazing time and was in awe. I thought she was great. She also is pretty prolific on TikTok, so it's been fun seeing her get so excited when she gets called in and take us on her journey a little bit. @jujujuliebee | |
