Not in the same Tony category, but Brad Oscar understudied Nathan Lane in “The Producers,” and Brad was himself nominated for featured actor. I remember thinking at the time that it seemed odd that you could see the show and miss two Tony-nominated performances at once if Nathan Lane called out. This situation with “Company” is similar.
I can’t think of another instance. Perhaps they’ve existed. (I guess it would be an even weirder scenario if Simard had won. This week you’d be missing a Tony-winning performance while the winner was onstage playing a different role.) |
