| Genealley didn't like the "Music Man" that much with Jackman. I'm surprised he went back for Max Clayton - if he did really go back... Plug Genealley's name into the User Name search function in "All That Chat" he chimes in with anti-Benko posts repeatedly: "Benko was Bueno pero no Estrella Posted by: Genealley 12:47 am EDT 05/02/22 In reply to: Having seen both Feldstein and Benko, I agree and disagree. - DanielVincent 09:57 pm EDT 05/01/22 She was efficient and could sing, but I really got no Star In The Making vibe. She was rushing her lines (probably from nerves) and her interpretations of the songs were very basic. Just a good stand-by who did her job and will go back to being a good stand-by. But I was impressed by how long she could hold a note." "Trust me...she's nowhere near Streisand's performance" Posted by: Genealley 05:17 pm EDT 05/02/22 In reply to: re: Having seen both Feldstein and Benko, I agree and disagree. - KingSpeed 03:19 pm EDT 05/02/22 She's not quirky, not interpretative in singing, rushes a lot of lines, misses jokes, disappears in Rat-A-Tat-Tat. No comparison." On the MJ understudy: "Wow. Get a life? Posted by: Genealley 05:31 pm EDT 05/13/22 In reply to: re: Saw MJ tonight - writerkev 04:58 pm EDT 05/13/22 These post-ers are officially out of control. I did not intentionally try to stir the pot by posting a provocative statement. I was merely stating that the originator HAS to be better than this standby. Otherwise he couldn't be so praised and awarded. And it's hysterical that these people assume that I am a deliberate contrarian to create dialogue. Just so happens that I don't find a lot of shows very good or lacking in good elements. So I point them out. And this site is just the place to do that. Believe me, when I come across something I like, you'll be the first to know it. (Strange Loop, Moulin Rouge, Beetlejuice, Six, Come From Away, Chicago, Oratorio, anyone?)" It's a thing with him. He is pretty much alone in being lukewarm or negative on Benko. Everyone else has raved - unless I missed something/someone. I can't say anything about how Max Clayton was since I haven't seen him or Jackman in "Music Man" because I haven't seen this revival. Marlo Manners (Lady Barrington) |

| Yes. You’re on the record as disliking Book of Mormon, Mockingbird and Company, but liking “Diana”. | |

| “ just WHAT is a "thing" with me? That I dislike some things and like other things? Hysterical!!!” Hysterical is right. (And for what it’s worth, I agree with Ms Manners: I don’t believe either that anyone goes back to see the understudies in all these shows they pretty much hated the first time.) |

| I LOVE going back to shows I don't like to see the understudies. Sometimes it makes all the difference. And sometimes it at least elevates the show to a different, better level. Not understudies, but the replacement cast of SOMETHING ROTTEN (which I didn't much care for the first time) was excellent and changed my opinion of the show. Oh yeah....then there was that time that a certain Miss Minnelli stood in for Gwen Verdon and totally changed my mind about the show. I'd even go back again to see ANOTHER understudy in FUNNY GIRL. It's a classic show and it's fun to see how another take on the lead would affect the overall production. I mean SOMEBODY's gotta be able to save this gobbler!! |
