| As someone I'm sure you're referring to I have to say your hyperbole is staggering ... And the implication that people want her thin conventionally attractive understudy to take over having anything to do with her being thin and conventionally attractive is groundless ... I think everyone criticizing this show and her performance would be thrilled if a heavyset (or fat or whatever) woman who could kill the comedy and kill the songs took over. Benko just happens to be the only other option since the run began. I have also read many saying that while Benko is fantastic, she is *not* a star, she is a great understudy. But what I think is the clear message from people singing Benko is relief and excitement that she can actually since the score, that they can and did see someone who can do that, which for all of Beanie's strengths, and even if you enjoy her singing in the show, that's not really a key one. Frankly, I think the producers messed up by even hiring a thin and/or conventionally attractive actor to understudy this role and Beanie... it's a bit of a bit of a slap in the face to one of the strengths of casting Beanie in this new production in the first place, and the statement they were making with that casting choice. (also for the record, I have said nothing about wanting Benko to takeover... I know this post was aimed at many here, not just me, but I wanted to acknowledge that). |
