It was revised for the 1980 Goodspeed production, restoring four cut songs and with the book reworked (possibly just to a pre-Broadway version). The authors brought it back to something like what they wanted it to be originally. It got some good reviews, although Rich in the Times give it the kind of mixed reviews that I am sure killed any hope of a move to New York. In 2008, the show was done at Signature in Arlington. I think it was the revised version.

Signature's THE HAPPY TIME

I saw the 2008 Signature Theatre production of THE HAPPY TIME, and I thought it was terrific. It was definitely a revised version from the Broadway one, with some different songs and book changes, though I don't remember the details now. It was also quite intimate, being done in Signature's smaller space. I remember in particular David Margulies being brilliant in the David Wayne role of Grandpere Bonnard. Michael Unger's direction was sterling.
