I agree that Julie Andrews holds a special place in theater history not only for her creating 2 iconic roles on Broadway, but for filming other musicals which either started on Broadway ( "The Sound of Music") or television ("Cinderella") and which later ended up on Broadway ("Victor/Victoria", "Thoroughly Modern Millie" "Mary Poppins" and the aforementioned "Cinderella"). Her talent and presence inspired many of those musicals being done in the first place and their success led to those Broadway and other productions thereafter. She should indeed be honored for her incredible career contributions to the theater.
She has been honored by the theater industry in the past though for a performance: for her role in "The Boy Friend" she received a Donaldson Award, which basically was the theater's top award before the Tonys came along and replaced them as such. |
