I knew it was by Vernon Duke and from a musical, though I wouldn't have been able to name the musical without looking it up. Also by Vernon Duke and from a musical (Walk a Little Faster, 1932) is "April In Paris," to which "Autumn In New York" is sometimes considered the "follow-up." Stanley Green's book Ring Bells, Sing Songs! is a wealth of information on Broadway musicals of the 1930s. I read it from cover to cover whenever I can't think of anything else to do! ; )
