I spoke with Calvin at a play recently, he will continue to write feature stories about theater in St. Louis, but (as you have indicated) the interest in critical opinion is not the same as when we were growing up. I had a similar experience several years ago, working for a local magazine's online edition, it turned out the readership was good for articles about upcoming touring shows at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, but not for reviews of shows in current production. I believe Calvin also said he would not suffer a cut in pay, though of course it's bad news for theaters in need of publicity.
