| THE VISIONARY TONY AWARD-WINNING PRODUCTION OF STEPHEN SONDHEIM & GEORGE FURTH’S LANDMARK AMERICAN MUSICAL “COMPANY” TO PLAY FINAL BROADWAY PERFORMANCE SUNDAY, JULY 31 AT THE BERNARD B. JACOBS THEATRE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR PLANNED FOR 2023-2024 SEASON ONLY SIX MORE WEEEKS TO SEE THE MOST HONORED MUSICAL OF THE SEASON New York, NY (June 21, 2022) – The thrilling revival of Stephen Sondheim’s and George Furth’s Company, which is the most honored musical of the Broadway season receiving every major award for Best Musical Revival including the 2022 Tony Award, will play its final performance at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Sunday, July 31 at 2 PM. A North American tour of Company is planned for the 2023-2024 season. When it ends its run on July 31, Company will have played 300 performances (268 regular performances and 32 preview performances). Producer Chris Harper said, “It remains the honor of a lifetime to bring Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s masterpiece to Broadway in Marianne Elliott’s Tony Award-winning reimagined production. It is a testament to the dedication of everyone who works on the production that we have withstood all the challenges that Broadway has faced over the last two years to share this show with our amazing audiences. We have six more weeks of performances to celebrate our astonishing cast, orchestra, and crew at the Jacobs Theatre and we are delighted to be planning a touring production to bring Company to audiences across North America soon.” Company began preview performances on March 2, 2020, and, following the Broadway shutdown, resumed previews on November 15, 2021. The production was in previews when on November 26, 2021, Broadway suffered the devastating loss of composer Stephen Sondheim. This production of Company was the last Broadway production of his work that he saw to fruition before his passing at the age of 91. The evening of his passing, director Marianne Elliott and the cast of Company, led by Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone, took the stage and dedicated the production in his honor. The production opened to critical acclaim on Thursday, December 9, 2021 and has been called “gloriously transformative” (New York Times), “dazzling” (The Hollywood Reporter), “sensational” (Variety), “deeply funny,” (Washington Post), “a phenomenon that should be experienced in person at least once in this life,” (The New Yorker), and “hands down the best musical production of the season” (New York Post). The production received five Tony Awards, more than any other musical this season including Best Musical Revival, Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Patti LuPone), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Matt Doyle), Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Bunny Christie). Marianne Elliott also received the Tony for Best Director of a Musical, her third Tony Award, making her the most honored female director in Broadway history. It also received four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, four Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards, and the GLAAD Media Award. Company stars Tony Award winner Katrina Lenk and the legendary Patti LuPone who received her third Tony Award for her electrifying performance as Joanne. Joining Lenk and LuPone are some of New York’s most beloved and accomplished actors including Matt Doyle who received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Jamie, three-time Tony Award nominee Christopher Fitzgerald as David, two-time Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber as Harry, two-time Tony Award nominee Jennifer Simard as Sarah, Terence Archie as Larry, Grammy Award winner Etai Benson as Paul, Bobby Conte as P.J., Nikki Renée Daniels as Jenny, Claybourne Elder as Andy, Greg Hildreth as Peter, Manu Narayan as Theo, and Rashidra Scott as Susan. The complete cast of Company also includes Kathryn Allison, Britney Coleman, Jacob Dickey, Javier Ignacio, Anisha Nagarajan, Nicholas Rodriguez, Heath Saunders, Tally Sessions, and Matt Wall. Company, the musical comedy masterpiece about the search for love and cocktails in the Big Apple is turned on its head in Elliott’s revelatory staging, in which musical theatre’s most iconic bachelor becomes a bachelorette. At Bobbie’s (Lenk) 35th birthday party, all her friends are wondering why isn’t she married? Why can’t she find the right man? And, why can’t she settle down and have a family? This whip smart musical comedy, given a game-changing makeover for a modern-day Manhattan, features some of Sondheim’s best loved songs, including “Company,” “You Could Drive a Person Crazy,” “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “Side by Side,” and the iconic “Being Alive.” Sondheim and Elliott collaborated to update this masterpiece, bringing Bobbie’s array of friends and lovers unswervingly into the 21st century: Paul (Etai Benson) is waiting patiently for his fiancée Jamie (nee “Amy,” played by Matt Doyle) to get over his increasingly frantic wedding day jitters. Sarah (Jennifer Simard) struggles with her body image while her husband Harry (Christopher Sieber) struggles with sobriety – their marital tensions bubbling just under the surface. Joanne (Patti LuPone) is taking a third try at marriage with Larry (Terence Archie), the object of his wife’s affections … and savage barbs. Peter (Greg Hildreth) and Susan (Rashidra Scott) seem to have the perfect marriage, until perfection proves impossible. Sophisticated Jenny (Nikki Renée Daniels) and her square husband David (Christopher Fitzgerald) can’t wrap their heads around Bobbie’s perpetually single status and aren’t shy about expressing their concern. All while Bobbie juggles three men: Andy (nee “April,” played by Claybourne Elder), the sexy flight attendant, Theo (nee “Kathy,” played by Manu Narayan), the small-town boy trying to find his way in the city, and P.J. (nee “Marta,” played by Bobby Conte), the native New Yorker who’s head-over-heels for his hometown. The creative team for Company includes Drama Desk Award nominee Liam Steel (choreography), Joel Fram (musical supervisor), 2022 Tony Award winner Bunny Christie (set and costume design), Tony Award nominee Neil Austin (lighting design), Tony Award nominee Ian Dickinson (sound design), Tony Award nominee David Cullen (orchestrations), Sam Davis (dance arrangements), Chris Fisher (illusions), Campbell Young Associates (hair, wig, and makeup design), and Cindy Tolan (casting). | I can imagine they didn't want to spoil the surprises, but for a production that was most noticeable for how well it nailed the comedy, that number is a comic tour de force and prompted a mid-show standing ovation the night I saw it. It might not have helped, but damn, if any number could have sold tickets, that was the one. | |

| You're right, though it would have required either a more substantial set build or significant restaging to work without. The apartment for the opening number they had already since they've used it everywhere. | |

| I think they could have done "Getting Married Today" without an elaborate set, or "The Ladies Who Lunch" without an elaborate set, or almost any other number. They've done the opening number on TV already, so the interested audience has already seen it, and it's not very "grabby" anyway IMO. I don't think it helped their sales. And the number is the only production number from a show from this year's Tonys that has been kept off YouTube. I don't know what led to that decision, but that seems really misguided in terms of generating sales. |

| I'm glad i had the chance to see this and hear the wonderful score and watch everyone popping in and out of that dazzle dazzle Tony winning set. Amazing that Patti found new things to say and do with the character of Joanne even after playing it so many times before But I agree also that large chunks of this production having to do with making Bobbie a she just didn't work. And Im sorry to say that Katerina Lenk an actress i liked in "Indecent" and "The Band's Visit" seemed lost and unfocussed in trying to create her character. "Sorry-Grateful:" indeed |

| As beloved as Sondheim is in our circles, there seems to be a ceiling as to how many audiences want to join this ''Company.'' This ''Company'' won 5 Tonys, the most for any show, but is announcing its scheduled closing before, say, ''Paradise Square.'' I'm reminded of ''Assassins'' winning the most Tonys with 5 in 2004, and then closing roughly a month after that. Then again, this is the third ''Company'' revival on Broadway since the original one opened in 1970 and ran 705 performances. By the time, this ''Company'' closes, it'll have racked up 300 shows, which is more than the 1995 revival (68) or 2007 revival (246). |

| ...I don't really watch the business the way some of you do, but I don't recall hearing recent rumblings of an inevitable summertime closing for Company, the way we've heard plenty of chatter for Paradise Square, Hangmen, Girl from the North Country and others. Is this a surprise or should everyone have seen this coming? I assume a low advance is a contributing factor to these types of decisions. Guess I'll have to hightail it in order to see the production before it closes. | |

| And probably making weekly costs. But like you stated, the advance is probably poor and august is usually a slow month going into a sluggish fall. Some shows hold out for holiday boost. Hangmen and girl were planned schedule end of run. It was selling out they could have extended. Paradise is the mystery show. I want that printing press to mint money in my basement. | |

| "[Lead producer Chris] Harper said it was too early to say whether the revival, which was capitalized for up to $13 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, would recoup its costs. The show, like many others, received $10 million in federal assistance from the Small Business Administration during the pandemic. It grossed $640,297 during the week ending June 12, playing to houses that were 74 percent full." | |

| I doubt she's available what with girls5eva (is that the title?) but I think she'd be a superb Bobbie. A younger Joanne would be nice (in her 40's as Stritch was)? Nicholas Barasch would be an adorable Jamie. (Wondering why he left the Hadestown tour?) |

|
| Don't be confused. I agree with dramedy on this. New Yorkers and tourists have had 7 months to see Matt Doyle's outstanding performance in Company on Broadway. Doyle winning a featured actor Tony is not a big enough deal to sell more tickets to a show that (unfortunately) has not been a hot ticket in New York. However, a tour to a theatre savvy city like Chicago (and others) featuring a Broadway star like Doyle, recreating his Tony winning role, will definitely sell a lot of tickets to an audience who knows who is but has never been able to see him live on a stage. |

| Look - I love Doyle and I'm excited for his Tony win. But I think you're making him a bigger star than he is. He might sell *some* tickets, but he's not such a "Broadway star" and even in a "theatre savvy city" I don't think his name is that big of a draw. Maybe in the future - but now? I'm not so sure. | |

|
| All I'm saying is that the tour in Chicago would sell more tickets with Doyle in the cast that it would without him in the cast. He is name that resonates with theatre savvy Chicagoans. Most of the tours we get do not have a single recognizable name in them. |

| There has still been no announcement of a Broadway cast recording for this production. Because the cast and orchestra will go their separate ways after closing, it seems like the time to do this is now. Are they really not going to preserve it? |

| This revival never really found enough of an audience to be successful commercially. The production will undoubtedly lose most (if not all) of its investment. A recording would probably cost between $350K to $500K. It would probably take something like a very generous donor to get this revival recorded. | |

| I understand what you're saying from a financial perspective. But from a creative/artistic perspective, this is the last Broadway production that Sondheim was involved with and it was heavily revised from its previous iteration. Not to mention the five Tony awards. It feels necessary for historical value to preserve that. It would be really sad if this production is lost to time. | |

| There's a London cast recording of the same production which includes Patti's rendition of "Ladies Who Lunch" and features in Rosalie Craig a Bobbi who can better sing the score than Katrina Lenk. I imagine that rather lessens the need and commercial potential for a new recording. | |
