On the morning of the 1995 nominations, the Tonys had asked Kathleen Turner to announce them at Sardi's, and I was there.
That season, she was starring in Jean Cocteau's ''Indiscretions,'' alongside Eileen Heckart, Roger Rees, Cynthia Nixon and Judy Law. ... Well, everyone in her 5-member cast got a Tony nomination. Except Turner. I felt so bad and embarrassed for her. But she was a trouper. A class act.
I wonder: Did the Tonys give Turner a chance to graciously bow out of the event? Or did she know, and thought: ''F*ck it, I'm reading 'em anyway!''? |
