| I can imagine they didn't want to spoil the surprises, but for a production that was most noticeable for how well it nailed the comedy, that number is a comic tour de force and prompted a mid-show standing ovation the night I saw it. It might not have helped, but damn, if any number could have sold tickets, that was the one. | |

| You're right, though it would have required either a more substantial set build or significant restaging to work without. The apartment for the opening number they had already since they've used it everywhere. | |

| I think they could have done "Getting Married Today" without an elaborate set, or "The Ladies Who Lunch" without an elaborate set, or almost any other number. They've done the opening number on TV already, so the interested audience has already seen it, and it's not very "grabby" anyway IMO. I don't think it helped their sales. And the number is the only production number from a show from this year's Tonys that has been kept off YouTube. I don't know what led to that decision, but that seems really misguided in terms of generating sales. |
