I loved most of the modern touch ups, though making Rosencrantz a woman was gratuitous 🙄

Indeed, what is it about Rosencrantz's role that makes it 'gratuitous'* for a woman? Is it impossible for Hamlet to have had a female friend? Or for a woman to collude with the king and queen?

You would no doubt be shocked to learn that it's not that uncommon for either Rosencrantz or Guildenstern to be cast as a woman—as for instance, in the recent Young Vic production. It's one of the easiest parts in the play to cross cast.

*and, apparently, in need of an extra eye roll to emphasize the point

Thanks for the information, didn't know. It thought the extra sexual tension between them was an unecesary (and not well done) distraction from an already complex play.

Your reply was stupidly hostile. Calm yourself down.

If I'd wanted to be hostile, I would have made fun of you for "It's really important to know the characters and plot before you go." Hamlet's not even in the running when it comes to most complex Shakespearean plots.

Using your superior knowledge to shame someone isn't a great look. You must be fun at parties.

I think the play HAMLET doesn’t really take off until the nunnery scene. The thrills of he Ghosts’s appearance keep us engaged, as does Hamlet’s soliloquized pain, but the circumstances really whip into a frenzy w the nunnery scene.
