This topic has no right answer. In the same thread I gave Feldstein the benefit of the doubt, returning from 10 days of symptomatic Covid, and in another post, mentioned that she's under contract and therefore wouldn't call out capriciously. Neither response sits well with some.
The post above that opines how the show is the star and that both actresses have a negligible effect on box office is spot on. And backed up by any perfunctory read of weekly grosses. We can haggle about which Fanny is better, how oddly the show was cast, whether critical discussions cross the line to cruel, or whether factor X is driving buzz. But a fair number of people who don't care about theater boards or reviews seem to want to see this piece on Broadway; they buy tickets, and for now, that's the story. If box office plunges after 9/25, it may have to do with a finite audience for the revival; who knows? But it's enjoying a fine summer in this still shaky season, star or standby center stage. |
