There was also the one-man show "George M. Cohan Tonight" which I believe was done at Irish Rep – and, if I recall, was a bit more forthcoming about Cohan's romantic life than "Yankee Doodle Dandy."

"Yankee Doodle Dandy" is indeed a charming film, though also wartime propaganda-y. I remember back in the 70s & 80s when Mikhail Baryshnikov was all the rage, he said in an interview that the greatest dancing he ever saw was James Cagney in "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
