I’ve heard Heckart was rather remarkable. I have the script and what’s worth noting: as ugly as it is, it’s devilishly well written. The lurid details of this awful family are set forth with all of the hot Levin talent. I can imagine Heckart drawn to the multiple parts of one role - really three different women by play’s end due to the layered sociopathy. But there is no denying the offensive nature of the rape and murder, all the worse for not happening in that order.
