Thanks for sharing this. I started listening and was surprised by an alternate lyric —

"Sweeney pondered and Sweeney planned.
Like a f*cking machine 'e planned."

Check it out at about 3:19. The published libretto and original cast recording, of course, have "Like a perfect machine 'e planned."

The change works fine here and the cast members certainly sell it. But has anyone heard this used before? Did Sondheim write it for this particular broadcast?

Edit: Also noticed "bugger" instead of "blighter" here: "So they merely shipped the poor bugger off south, they did." Pretty sure it's blighter on the OCR, but interestingly, the libretto does have bugger.
