A friend auditioned for the part of the flamboyant (read "gay") designer for the National Tour of "Coco," in which Hepburn would star. He decided to sing "Here's to the Ladies who Lunch." The audition was at the Mark Hellinger, where the show was winding down its NY run. He got about as far as "Here's to the ladies ---" when from the darkness of the auditorium he saw a flashlight come on, illuminating Hepbrurn shaking her head "No." He said it took him weeks to recover from the incident.
